Meet Rex — a fast-striking sabotage mech built for bold plays and brutal ambushes. Agile, aggressive, and armed with an acid cannon, he’s engineered to break enemy lines before they even know what hit them. Here's how we created it.
Rex is a sabotage-type robot who can temporarily accelerate using an exoskeleton (An exoskeleton. On a robot. Yes!) mounted on its legs. He also has a built-in acid-spraying cannon
Our robot belongs to the Space Tech faction, and our reference pool includes Dux, Raptor, Nuo, and Lio. Additionally, the robot is meant to slightly resemble a T-rex (the dinosaur) and just a little bit of a Xenomorph
However, the main reference is Metal Gear. You could say it’s an homage to one of our art department’s favorite franchises
In the first version, the head turned out very streamlined; we wanted more angular shapes
We tried adding glazing to the cockpit, but didn’t really liked this version
Eventually, the mech took on its final appearance — the cannon moved from the shoulder to the “head” (when firing, the shutters open, revealing the acid cannon)
Final concept
Modelling phase: default mode, ability activated, close-up of the cannon
And here's our Rex, ready to wreck havoc on the battlefield
